Fall getaways: Biking in Prince Edward County, Ontario

Arboreal wonder is on offer in Prince Edward Country in fall, as are more than 35 wineries featuring tastings of pinot noir and chardonnay, gourmet food, and postcard-worthy villages filled with charming galleries. But, if you’re into cows, renovated historic barns or yoga retreats, then look to Bloomfield Bicycle Company, which will outfit you with cycling necessities and customize a trip around your interests. The company arranges tours and trails lasting from one afternoon to five or six days, and will also organize accommodations at B & B’s or rental properties if needed. Best of all, they’ll transport your gear. (For those in need of a boutique sanctuary in the bucolic setting, the new Drake Devonshire Inn, located in Wellington, is a great place to spend the night.) September and October are truly the best times to explore by cycling: the weather is cooler and more comfortable, the autumnal colours add drama, and there’s less traffic getting to and from the county.
